Hello Everyone
Saturday 5th until Saturday 19th July - Two weeks - You can come for one week or two

Accommodation is available in student houses, which are available during the summer. These are the same houses we used in 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007 so all tried and tested and found to be very good value for money and comfortable.

These houses have 10 single bedrooms. Each with a bed, desk, wardrobe and sink. The room is quite decent in size. We share a kitchen which is fully equipped with stove, fridge, freezer, dishes, pots, etc. Many people only used this for making their breakfast before they did their own thing. However, some people did also make some meals. So its up to the individuals what they want to do. There is ample seating for the people in the kitchen. Normally we found that 3 or 4 people may be making some toast and coffee and just as they are leaving, 2 or 3 more may come in. None of us found it crowded. We also found that the kitchen was like a common room to get together in the evening.

The houses have shared facilities like toilets, shower, bath. For a lot of people, they may not like that idea, however, no complaints were heard from anyone who stayed there with us in previous years, so I am sure that no one felt that was a problem.

A coin laundry is within a minute's walk and a little store also nearby for small incidentals. Heslington is about a 7 minutes walk and has several banks, post office, some shops and most important, Charles X11 (a pub) where a number of us gathered on different occasions. Great to have a meal, a pint, or just enjoy the company with a soft drink.

As many people who attend our gatherings have to spend a lot of money just to get here, this very affordable accommodation is just the thing! The added bonus now is that the Borthwick Institute's new building is only a few minutes walk away!

York is about 10 minutes on the bus, and the bus stop a few minutes walk from the accommodation. Buses are approximately every ten minutes.

Hope to see lots of people from both overseas and from the UK as well in 2008.

Jane Lachs

The Borthwick Institute is
a few minutes walk from the accommodation!
Plan an intensive week's research!!!
